It aims to support children who have lost both the Parents or legal Guardian or Adoptive Parents or Surviving Parent to COVID-19 pandemic with the objective to ensure comprehensive care and protection of Children in a sustained manner, and enable their well-being through health insurance, empower them through education and equip them for self-sufficient existence with financial support on reaching 23 years of age.
To ensure comprehensive care and protection of children who have lost their parent(s) to COVID pandemic, in a sustained manner, enable their wellbeing through health insurance, empower them through education and equip them for self-sufficient existence with financial support on reaching 23 years of age. The PM CARES for children scheme inter alia provides support to these children through convergent approach, gap funding for ensuring education, health, monthly stipend from the age of 18 years, and lump sum amount of Rs. 10 lakh on attaining 23 years of age.
The eligible children have been enrolled 29.5.2021 onwards (date of announcement of Hon’ble PM).
The Scheme is expected to continue till the year when every identified beneficiary shall turn 23 years of age.
All children who have lost:
i) Both parents or
ii) Surviving parent or
iii) legal guardian/adoptive parents/single adoptive parent due to COVID 19 pandemic, starting from 11 MARCH 2020 the date on which WHO has declared and characterized COVID-19 as pandemic till 05 MAY 2023, shall be entitled to benefits under this scheme.
iv) Child should not have completed 18 years of age on the date of death of parents.

PM cares for Children Scheme is being implemented in all the districts of the country in all States/Uts.

Ontime Ex-Gratia payment Rs. 50,000/- (Rs. Fifty thousand only) per deceased to next of kin of the deceased on per parent per family basis.
A pro-rata amount will be credited upfront in the account of each identified beneficiary such that the corpus for each beneficiary becomes Rs. 10 lakhs at the time of attaining 18 years of age.
They will receive an amount of Rs. 10 lakh on attaining 23 years of age.
Children will receive monthly stipend once they attain 18 years of age, by investing the corpus of Rs 10 lakhs. The beneficiary will receive stipend till they attain 23 years of age.
Provision for free health insurance cover of Rs. 5 lakh per eligible child under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme till 23 years of age.
Children under age of 18 years, Staying with relatives get 4000 per child per month under Mission Vatsalya. For the children statying in CCIs, the amount will be paid to CCIs.
Childrens are eligible to get admission in KVs, JNV, KGBVs and other State/Private Schools.
Scholarship assistance to complete their education from Class 1 upto class 12.
Total scholarship allowance will be Rs.20,000/- per child per annum to be released at the beginning of every academic year and will comprise of:
(a) Monthly allowance of Rs. 1,000/-.
(b) Annual academic allowance of Rs. 8,000/- to cover the cost of the books and uniform, shoes and other educational equipment.
Children are eligible for education loan for higher education under "Central Sector lnterest Subsidy Scheme(CSIS)" that provides full interest subsidy during the moratorium period on modern education loans without any collateral security and third-party guarantee, for pursuing technical/professional courses in lndia.
Rs. 50,000/- per annum for every year of study i.e. maximum 4 years for first year admitted Degree students and maximum 3 years for Diploma Students as lump sum amount towards payment of college fee, purchase of computer, stationeries, books, equipment, software etc.
Children are eligible for admission in Polytechnic Institutions under Supernumerary quota. Their shall be two supernumerary seats per course per institute.
All HEIs have been advised to create Supernumerary Seats for the children under PM Cares For Children Scheme.
